Our Mission

Our purpose is the Great Commission to bring others to Christ and to serve our members and community!  Jesus told us, His disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of Immanuel Lutheran Church is our mission to share God’s Grace with the world.

A Message from Pastor Meyer

Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

These are difficult times.  They are not wholly without precedent, but nobody alive has been through such circumstances.  The church is tasked to be a beacon of light chasing back the darkness of the world.  We do that in many ways, but weekly worship is central.  So, with no casualness, with no joy, and with no sense of permanent defeat, your Church Elders and Council has made the difficult decision to suspend all scheduled onsite activities at Immanuel until at least through Easter Sunday, April 12, 2020.

The communal act of worship is central to the Christian life.  It has no substitute.  Yet, we know that for generations our members "shut-in" at home have been sustained by cassette ministries, CD's, home visits and mailed resources.  We are blessed that if we must endure the present crisis, we are doing so in an era that allows us to deliver a simple worship service via streaming video across the internet.  For the time being, that will be our principle means for worshiping together.  We will broadcast our service live for the first time, Sunday, March 22, 2020 using Facebook and then on our website.  We will have Lenten services "live" on Facebook at 6:00 pm as scheduled.  We will have Sunday services "live" on Facebook at 9:00 am as scheduled.  But you can watch either, later, at another time if preferable.

The church office remains open, for your phone calls and emails.  I will continue to prepare for  worship and to seek enhanced ways to support our members during this time of trial.  I will be minimizing the daily number of in-person contacts that I have, so as not to become an unaware conduit of spreading COVID-19.

Some of you have anxieties about your retirement portfolio.  Some of you have anxieties about your jobs.  Some of you have anxieties about your health or that of fragile loved ones.  If you do a quick Bible Search on "anxiety", you may stumble upon 1Peter 5:7.  It is a solid verse of assurance.  But look at the whole context:

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

8 Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

9 Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world

is undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

Humility is a greater starting point for enduring a crisis.  Satan is the true enemy here.  Let us unite in prayer to lift up all who suffer.  The church will survive.  Most of us in it will survive.  Consider now how you will witness to future generations about a time when even the ravages of a global pandemic which paralyzed society and closed church doors did not become a stumbling block to your faith.  Pray.  Spend time in God's Word.  Pray more.  Join us online for worship.  Cling to the faith by which we are saved!

Peace be with you,

Serving Our King,

Pastor Ed Meyer
